Moderate a Live Conversation

Overview

Remesh Live requires that a moderator sends questions, messages and visuals to participants. You can also make changes to your discussion guide during your Conversation and add questions on-the-fly. If you would like a video overview of moderation, you can find that here.

How it Works

To moderate your Conversation, first you'll need to ensure your Conversation is Published then click the Live Moderate a Live Conversation 1 button. You will then see the moderator dashboard. On the left hand side is your programmed discussion guide.

Moderate a Live Conversation 2

All the content you have pre-programmed will appear under Queue, sent items will appear in Sent and skipped in Skipped.

Best Practices

  • We recommend practicing moderation using the instructions below before your Remesh Live conversation.
  • We recommend that about 80% of your allotted time is devoted to pre-programmed discussion guide questions, with the remaining time being devoted to asking follow up questions in the moment. Our Live analysis tools make it easy to find opportunities to learn more about your audience.
  • Often, we see researchers host a "backroom" experience with key stakeholders on a conference line. This allows the moderator to quickly hear feedback from stakeholders and make adjustments to the discussion guide as needed. We typically recommend creating an observer link for stakeholders which provides them with a view-only space.

Send a Pre-Programmed Item

You can send an item in 3 different ways.

  1. Hover over any item in the Guide, then click Send to send it to your audience. Once an item has been sent, it will move to the Sent section. You can ask questions out of order or skip them entirely.
  2. You will see a preview of your next question in the conversation space to the right. Click send to send that item.
  3. Set your conversation on AutoSend. This will send the items in the order they are programmed automatically.

Asking Follow Up Questions

One of the most powerful aspects of a Live Remesh Conversation is the ability to analyze your data in the moment and use that information to craft follow up questions. Below you can find the basics of how to program follow up questions, but you can find more information about analyzing your data live here and more information about follow up question best practices here.

Add a New Item

Adding items in your discussion guide in the moment is a great way to engage with your audience and make the most of the Remesh Live experience. Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if I have permission to moderate a Conversation?
You can read about what permission levels are able to moderate a Conversation here. In essence, if you can edit a Conversation in the Build section you can moderate a Conversation!
  • Can I delete something I sent to participants before the Conversation started or during the Conversation?
No, you cannot delete any items (questions, images, videos, or Speaks) that you send in a Remesh Live Conversation, regardless of whether or not the Conversation has started. In a Flex conversation, you can make limited edits once the conversation is published.

If you want to practice moderating or see how items will look to participants, please create a separate Conversation and select Non-Billable as the purpose.

  • How many moderators can there be for one Conversation?

There is no limit on the number of Moderators you can have during a session, and the platform allows for multiple people to be on the moderator link simultaneously. However, we recommend having only one Moderator to ensure the most seamless moderating experience.

If there are colleagues on your team who would like to follow along and offer ideas on questions to ask, we recommend sharing the Conversation with them as an Observer.

  • Do Flex Conversations need a moderator?

Flex Conversations do not require a moderator, but we do recommend monitoring your data throughout the course of the Flex. You can read more about the difference between Live and Flex here.

  • What happens if a participant arrives late to a Live Conversation?
Participants that arrive late to the conversation will still need to fill out all the onboarding questions before joining the conversation. Once they have completed the onboarding polls, the participant will then pick up wherever the conversation is currently at.
